W.E. Davies Staff Making a Difference in Their Community
Since 2002, Logan’s Heart and Smiles has provided safety accommodations to over 200 families in southern Wisconsin. W.E. Davies + Sons Remodeling recently enjoyed the opportunity to help this mission by building a ramp for a local Madison family.
Logan’s Heart and Smiles is a Madison non-profit, dedicated to making homes safe and accessible for children with disabilities. They are 100% volunteer run, and rely on sponsors, donors, and volunteers to make these modifications possible. Projects include building wheelchair ramps, safety fences, enlarged doorways, handrails, bathroom modifications, all based on the individual’s needs. As Joe Herr says, “Getting a child in and out of their home should not be a luxury”. This is what drives the organization to do what they do.
How W.E. Davies + Sons Remodeling Helped Logan’s Heart and Smiles
When approached by the organization and asked to volunteer some hours, W.E. Davies + Sons Remodeling decided to go all hands on deck—literally—and sent the whole team in. They finished the entire project in just one day.
The crew helped a local girl by building a ramp for her family’s home. Before renovations, they used a ramp laid over the top of the front porch stairs. It was too steep and unsteady. The project resulted in a larger front porch area, a safer ramp, and a staircase the other members of the family can use.
“Anything we can do to help Joe and his organization, we will do. They’ve been helping families with accessibility for 20 years. It’s a great organization and we’re proud to work with them,” says Kyle Davies, general manager of W.E. Davies + Sons Remodeling.
